Hazardous Electrical Area Classification

Facilities that store or process flammable or combustible gases, vapors, liquids, or dusts must be documented as Hazardous (Classified) locations required by NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), Article 500.4. Electrical area classification (EAC) is the process of determining the need and extent of hazardous locations in a facility. The 2023 NEC requires that EAC drawings and documentation be available to the AHJ, contractors, and end users.

ChemE Logic’s Chemists and Chemical Engineers are experienced in communicating the chemical hazards present and defining the bounds of each required EAC. We provide electrical engineers and designers with the information they need to produce the EAC drawings. We also review the EAC drawings with your design team to ensure accuracy and clarity.

ChemE Logic’s strong focus on complex chemical processes provides the capabilities to perform EACs for not only simple processes but can also analyze hazards that involve multiple unit operations or chemical reactions.
